Stewards stepping up to supervise.

Designed for people working in match day and events stewarding, at sports events, parades, concerts or carnivals. It confirms occupational competence for supervisory roles.

You need to be 18 or over. There are no prior learning requirements, although having achieved a Level 2 qualification is useful preparation.

As at Level 2, a work placement runs throughout the qualification and before certification, because the evidence has to come from real events.

Successful completion confirms competence in roles including Senior Steward, Assistant Ground Safety Officer and Marshal.

Five mandatory units.

  • Prepare stewards and venues for spectator events Level 36 credits26 hours
  • Manage and maintain stewarding in designated areas Level 33 credits13 hours
  • Manage information for action and decision-making for spectator events Level 36 credits26 hours
  • Develop and sustain productive working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders Level 34 credits16 hours
  • Monitor and solve customer service problems Level 36 credits40 hours

Choose two optional units.

Which two depends on the role you are in and what you have already achieved.

  • Help to manage and resolve conflicts Level 25 credits22 hours
  • Deal with incidents at spectator events Level 22 credits10 hours
  • Manage resources for safety and security at spectator events Level 410 credits35 hours
  • Manage the efficient use of resources Level 44 credits19 hours
  • Develop your knowledge, skills and competence Level 34 credits15 hours

Two notes from the specification.

The two Level 2 units are recommended only for learners who have not already completed a Level 2 qualification in spectator safety.

Managing resources for safety and security does not stand alone, despite its credit value. You still need a second optional unit for a full certificate.

How the assessment works.

Assessment is through performance in the workplace. Your assessor marks a portfolio of evidence, which NCFE externally quality assures. There is no written exam.

Simulation is used only where a real work environment cannot produce the evidence. Here that may apply to the unit on dealing with incidents.

Also required before certification.

The ACT eLearning counter-terrorism training, which is free from GOV.UK, and a recognised first aid award.
